Summary of amendments to the Trustee Ordinance (October 2013)
With the joint effort of HKTA and STEP Hong Kong Branch over many years working with officials of the Financial Services & Treasury Bureau, the Amendment Bill to the Hong Kong Trustees’ Ordinance was finally passed by Legislative Council on 17 July 2013 with the amendments taking effect on 1 November 2013.

KPMG Alert - FATCA Registration Portal Open
The IRS has unveiled its new Registration Portal, FATCA Registration Resources and Support Information, providing information relating to the FATCA registration process. The FATCA Registration System is a Web-based system that Financial Institutions (FIs) may use to register their FATCA classification completely online. Attached is a KPMG Alert with further details.

Letter to FSTB on IGA Annex 1
The Working Group (HKTA, HKFI and HKIFA) has been working with FSTB on FATCA and IGA. FSTB recently requested the Working Group to provide comments on possible due diligence concerns / issues that members may experience in implementing Annex I of the Draft Model 2 Intergovernmental Agreement (“IGA”) dated July 12, 2013. With the help of advisors, we put together a submission (enclosed) which was submitted to FSTB on 2 August 2013.
