Hong Kong Trust Industry Spotlight 2025 – Navigating change and embracing growth - Trust Report
19 Mar 2025The HKTA and KPMG are honoured to announce the release of the Trust Industry Report for 2025.
The fourth edition of the report coincides with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s MPF system, providing an endorsement of its robust health and the crucial role it plays in protecting the retirement assets of local residents.
The launch ceremony, officiated by Mr. Joseph Chan, Undersecretary of FSTB, attracted more than 200 attendees including representatives of the government, including FSDC and InvestHK, regulators (HKMA, MPFA, SFC and CR), as well as industry participants in the corporate, pensions, private and public trust sectors.
The report, the only comprehensive trust industry publication in Hong Kong, has been well received by all stakeholders. Some of the key findings include:
- The Hong Kong trust market has demonstrated remarkable resilience, growing to HK$5,188 billion in assets.
- Regulatory developments have had significant benefits for industry credibility and investor protection.
- The Chinese Mainland remains a key growth driver.
- The embrace of virtual assets by investors represents a thrilling advancement for the industry, offering both promising opportunities and significant challenges.
- The launch of the eMPF platform in June 2024 is reshaping Hong Kong’s pension system.
- Access to the right talent is a major challenge, particularly in areas such as legal and compliance, trust and fund administration.
- Increasing complexity of regulations and compliance is driving up costs for trust companies.
We would like to offer our deep gratitude to our co-authors at KPMG and everyone who contributed to the report.
