Background of the WAM Pilot Programme
The Legislative Council has approved HK$100 million for implementing the Pilot Programme to enhance talent training for the insurance sector and the asset and wealth management sector. About half of the HK$100 million fund will be allocated for the implementation of initiatives to help tackling the manpower shortage faced by the WAM sector. The pilot Programme will roll out in phases starting August 2016.
Objectives of the Pilot Programme are to:
- attract more new blood for expanding the pool of talents (particularly for the more
technical areas)
- enhance professional competency of the sector which is conducive to the growth of the
WAM sector
Overall aim of the briefing session on Summer Internship Programme
This 1-hour briefing session aims to introduce and collect feedback on the proposed mechanism of the summer internship programme so that participating organisations would get the most benefit from it.

Who should attend
Key stakeholders at corporate level of eligible participating employers* who are interested to know more or would like to share their views on the proposed mechanism.
Target audience would include:
- senior management of corporations in the wealth / asset management sector; or
- head of HR / Training / Talent Management; or
- head of wealth / asset management function in a financial institution
*Eligible participating employers are defined as follows:-
- Financial institution licensed with or registered by:-
- the Securities and Futures Commission under Regulated Activities Licence Type 9 Asset
Management, or
- the Hong Kong Monetary Authority;
- Insurer authorised under the Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap. 41) that have asset
and wealth management operations, or an insurance intermediary with asset and wealth
management
operations registered with or authorised by the Insurance Agents
Registration Board, Professional Insurance Brokers Association or Hong Kong
Confederation of Insurance Broker; or
- Trust company registered under Part 8 of the Trustee Ordinance (Cap 29).
