Certified Trust Practitioner^TM Accreditation Program

An accreditation program was launched by the Hong Kong Trustees’ Association on 1 July 2018. The accreditation program was the first in Hong Kong and is being introduced in order to: 

• develop talent within the trust and fiduciary services industries in Hong Kong in a systematic manner;
• set minimum professional standards within the trust industry;
• encourage new entrants to the industry and provide a platform for opportunities of career advancement; and
• promote confidence of clients, financial service sectors and regulatory bodies in fiduciary services through setting professional standards and competency of individuals working in the trust industry.

The accreditation will confer a Certified Trust Practitioner™ designation to individuals who have successfully attained the accreditation requirements.

The Trust Training Certificate Course by the HKTA in conjunction with the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute to bridge the knowledge gap. It is the first trust training course in Hong Kong with comprehensive coverage of topics including compliance, estate planning, family office, collective investment schemes and retirement schemes (MPF/ORSO) and comparison of HK with other trust jurisdictions.

• Understand the different types of trusts, their applications, benefits and management

• Advance your understanding of trusts, trust structures for both private and commercial applications

Highlights of TTC  version 2.0

• Part A is expanded to increase coverage on corporate trusts, funds and pensions and to update relevant regulatory regimes, such as the new HKMA Code of Practice for Trust Business and the new SFC Regulated Activity type 13 (“RA13”) requirements for conducting the SFC authorized CIS depositaries.
• Part B is updated to reflect new legislation and focuses more specifically on Hong Kong arrangements.

Examination framework

There are separate exams for Part A and Part B Stream 1 and Part B stream 2. Students need to attend the course lectures to sit the examinations. A student who has completed Part A or Part B of the course may defer sitting the examination for a maximum period of 3 years counting from the first unit attended. After 3 years, the student will be required to re-enrol and undertake the course again in order to sit the examination.

The examination for each part is scheduled finve times annually, in every March, May July, September and November. The examination is a 90 minutes computer based examination for each part. It conists of 60 of Multiple-choice Questions in English. The pass mark is 70%.

The Trust Training Certificate will be available 4-6 weeks after passing both Part A and B examinations. An email notification will be sent to you regarding the collection of your certificate. Candidates should keep their certificates safely, since the HKTA and HKSI Institute will NOT reissue certificate.

Remarks:

1. Individuals are required to complete all 7 syllabus units of above corresponding TTC Programme within 3 years - counting from the 1st unit attended, before sitting for the TTC Examination.
2. All computer-based exam candidates MUST schedule their exam. TTC exam candidates should refer to Step 2 of the Scheduling Guide for procedures.
3. Learners MUST schedule and attempt the examination within 180 days of completing all seven (7) units. Scheduling is only allowed after the training is fully completed.
4. Please note that exam scheduling is on a first-come-first-served basis.
5. Rescheduling is allowed up to six full days before the examination session, within the examination scheduling period and subject to availability.
6. The examination is based on the study guide and the slide deck, available in the training package and downloadable from the eCourse.
7. Individuals who have completed TTC (version 2.0) Part A or Part B training but did not pass the examination are eligible to enrol directly for a retake. For examination details, please click here. To enrol, please click here. 

Course fees

Fees include study guide with executive summary and review questions, legislative examples, sample exam questions, overhead slides used in the training on HKSI Institute Online Portal.

A free revision class is also included in the fees and offered at the end of each Part.

Corporate bulk discount on the training package price (with/without examination):

5% off for 3 to 5 staffs from the same organisation and 10% off for over 5 staffs from the same organisation.

Standalone unit:

Each unit of the course is also offered as a standalone unit, with the following fee schedule:

• Part A: Unit 1-5 & 7 HKD2,000 per unit; Unit 6 HKD2,500 per unit
• Part B: HKD2,500 per unit

(Re-take) Examination fee:

• $2,200 per examination for both Part A & B

Continuous Professional Training (CPT) Recognition

Upon successful completion of each unit, the participant will gain the equivalent 3 CPT / OPT / CPD hours recognised by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), the Law Society of Hong Kong (Law Society), Private Wealth Management Association (PWMA) and Hong Kong Trustees' Association (HKTA). Units 21 and 22 have been accredited as MPFA core CPD points.

Medium of Instruction

The in-class lectures will be conducted in English and all course material will be in English.
